A Message from our CEO

LUI acknowledges and celebrates the beyond fabulous news that convictions for serious crimes by less than unanimous jury verdicts were declared unconstitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court on April 20, 2020 in the landmark case of RAMOS v. LOUISIANA.  Our organization will issue a detailed statement on the matter, but now we must deal with the immediate threat of death presented by COVID-19 for thousands of African Americans in detention facilities, jails, and prisons throughout Louisiana.
